Join James Boggs, PhD. as he introduces his audience to the intricacies and history of land surveying. Dr. Boggs will share his collection of historic surveying equipment and stories of working with Rector William Smith at St. Mary’s Church in Emmorton, surveying the church cemetery for his good friend while stationed at APG, along with many other stories about the impacts of land surveys on our daily lives. This is a unique opportunity to learn how these lines are drawn and actually have a hands-on experience with some of this fascinating equipment. Dr. Boggs will be joined by Claudine Adams to tell the story of the Society’s Deaton Collection. Glen Deaton was the county surveyor from 1951 until 1970s. This collection provides a graphic image of Harford County moving from a rural enclave to the beginning of suburban expansion.
