March 22, 2025, is the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Bush Declaration. On this day in 1775, a body of men gathered in the town of Bush in a building that served as a temporary jail and courthouse for the newly created Harford County. Thirty-four of these men signed a document known as the Bush Declaration, declaring the county’s support of the 2nd Continental Congress and Provincial Convention of Maryland. These men risked their lives and fortunes to stand against Great Britain as the country dissolved into war.
The Anniversary celebration will include a presentation by Colonel Aquila Hall, Chairman of the Committee of Harford County and the first person to sign the Bush Declaration, followed by a reading of the Declaration and accompanying musical selections. This is a free event. Children and the young at heart can pick up a Passport that they can have stamped at selected historical sites on Saturday and Sunday. Participants can redeem their passports at the day’s last stop or the Hays House on Sunday for a certificate and a Junior Historian badge.
